‘Paranormal Activity’: Midnight screamings across the country

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity

Horror fans, the wait is now officially over — or it could be soon, depending on where you live. On Sept. 25, Paramount Pictures will finally release Paranormal Activity, the super low-budget indie that fright flick fanatics have been foaming at the mouth to see since its storied debut at the January 2008 Slamdance fest. On Sept. 24, the movie — about a young San Diego couple terrorized by things that go bump in the night — will screen at midnight at the Alamo Draft House in Austin, Tex. as part of über-geek Harry Knowles’ Fantastic Fest. Prepare to be freaked out. At a recent screening in Toronto, a packed audience gasped and screamed as they watched actors Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston become increasingly unhinged in the presence of a (potential) demon. Think Blair Witch, but in a cozy suburban house. (The latest trailer embedded here.)

The Fourth Kind Trailer

I saw this trailer last night before D-9 and it looks damn good. Now the film claims to be based on true events that occurred in Nome, Alaska, where people have been disappearing at an alarming rate since the 70’s.  Of course when I went and looked online for some evidence I couldn’t find Jack. So I’m wondering if this could be another case of a Blair Witch marketing blast. Oh and the film, which you will see in the trailer, also claims to integrate actual video footage from case studies done by Dr. Abigail Tyler. Again, sounds a bit Blair Witchey but never the less looks to be a real freaky alien abduction flick. {video source: Mindfreak07051987}

The Matter of Everything Trailer

The Matter Of Everything is a feature documentary that challenges us to see beyond our everyday sense of experience into the unseen universe. From the quantum to the cosmos, The Matter Of Everything journeys deep out of the foundations of nature to reveal what we are, at billionths of the human scale. At that level, physicists at Fermilab, one of the largest particle research facilities in the world, describe a universe that is more unified than ever imagined. {source: RiverchoirFeed}

Full Length Trailer for District 9 – 2 Minutes plus

The full trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 has been released on Yahoo. The new trailer gives you a much better look at the actual story of the film and how the doc-style cinematography will by employed. I really love how the South African setting adds to the realism of aliens living on Earth. Watch the trailer embedded after the jump, and please tell me what you think in the comments below. {source: slashfilm.com}

White Out Official Trailer

Update: Unfortunately Warner Bros. Entertainment doesn’t want you to see their new trailer. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

My first thoughts when watching this is John Carpenter’s 1982 The Thing starring Kurt Russel. Can’t really tell from this whether it’s more than just a killer tearing up the place. I guess we’ll have to wait until September when it’s released. Still looks pretty cool though.

A U.S. marshal (Kate Beckinsale), the only one assigned to Antarctica, must investigate a murder there within three days before the arctic winter begins. She crosses paths with a U.N. operative (Gabriel Macht), also investigating the murder. She must chases down suspects and finds more murders. Early in the story, Steko is attacked by the killer and left for dead in a storm. She saves herself but loses two fingers due to severe cold-related injuries. {source: imdb}

Paranormal SPY Reviews: Zombie

They will eat you.

They will eat you.

After reading up on some voodoo material for an upcoming post last night I kind of got a hankering for some zombies. So I watched the 1979 Italian flick Zombie for the first time. I remembered this movie because of the great tag line “We Are Going To Eat You,” but for some reason always blew it off as a cheap Romero rip off. What a complete dope I was.

Zombie was directed by Lucio Fulci and starred Tisa Farrow(yes, sister of Mia) and UK born actor Ian McCulloch. And speaking of zombie master himself, George Romero, Zombie was actually titled Zombie 2 in Italy, stealthily trying to position itself as a sequel so as to capitalize on the success of Dawn of the Dead which was titled Zombi in Italy. Did you get all that?
