What’s really The Objective?

So I finally saw The Objective last night, and I gotta tell ya it didn’t leave me disappointed like many of the posts I’ve read online. It’s definitely a thinking man’s movie though. You’re not going to be spoon fed. Director Daniel Myrick sets up the story and lets the audience decide much like he did as the co-creator of The Blair Witch Project.

Don’t Fouke with the Fouke Monster!

fouke_art

I just came across the comment that Sir “Mister Wildlife” David Attenborough made on some British talk show the other night stating that, “I’m baffled by the Abominable Snowman – very convincing footprints have been found at 19,000ft.” This immediately brought back memories of the old In Search Of Episodes where I saw the famed Patterson Bigfoot film for the first time. Which got me thinking that we really haven’t gone down the crypto path here at Paranormal SPY. So I went in search of something new today and boy did I come up big. And no, it’s not some semi-frozen refrigerator Bigfoot, it’s the Fouke Monster.

The Objective (2008)

the-objectiveFinally, something other than another ’80s horror flick remake, an actual honest-to-goodness, original story. I know, I couldn’t believe it either. I guess there are some real film makers left. Speaking of which, the movie is directed by Daniel Myrick, one of the co-creators of The Blair Witch Project. The Objective looks to me anyway, like a supernatural thriller. And the premise is really wild.

It takes place in Afghanistan two months after 911, where we follow a team of special op guys and one iffy CIA dude. Their mission is to make contact with a Muslim cleric but they end up meeting something unexpected. And not too friendly I’m guessing.

Ghostbusters 3

I don’t want to get too fired up about this leak so I’ll be leaving the proton pack in the closet. But the Ghostbusters 3 update came directly from Dan Aykroyd’s mouth. This is one of my all-time favorite comedies of the ’80s, which stars one of the best comedy casts since Stripes or The Blues Brothers.

The Haunting in Connecticut

The Haunting in ConnecticutI had totally forgotten about the new Haunting in Connecticut movie until I came across the latest poster. This movie is based on the true events of the Snedeker family who moved into an old funeral home in Southington, Connecticut. That alone should tell you where this is going, a not so cheery place.

It got so bad that The Warrens of the now infamous Amityville case were called in to investigate. John Zaffis, a nephew of the Warrens who was also part of the team witnessed an apparition appear with the noise of a thousand flapping wings and a stink so bad he could hardly breathe. This is definitely “soil your grunts” type of stuff.

Review: Splinter

Splinter

It was an okay movie, and I did enjoy a couple of scenes. But would I watch it again? NO!

I had high expectations for Splinter, especially since it was an independent horror film, but I’m not going to use that as an excuse to give this film any credit. Camera work was good and steady and casting was okay. But in the end it was just another, “seen that, done that horror flick”.

Paranormal Activity the Movie [Evidence of a Haunting]

paranormal_activity_the_movie

I’ve been waiting for over a year now for this low-budget indie movie to move out of the festival circuit and get some commercial screen time or at least be released to video. But when it comes to getting a status update, we’re still in the dark. And now that Dreamworks has acquired the project and is putting big bucks behind a remake I feel like the project is deteriorating like a post-Halloween pumpkin. My money says Spielberg will be screwing up the flick with sappy special effects.
