ABC Ordered a Show That’s a Cross Between The X-Files and The West Wing

Jon Favreau, Roberto Orci, Seth Green, and Michael Dougherty are working on a sci-fi drama called Ex-Comm, which is “a cross between the paranormal suspense of The X-Files and the political intrigue of The West Wing,” according to Deadline. To the surprise of no one, ABC snatched up the show and gave it a put-pilot commitment.

Josh Gates goes in search of the banshee

In Search of Banshee

In Search of Banshee

The truth is out there – somewhere – believes Josh Gates. Since 2007, he has served as a genial tour guide on Destination Truth. Equal parts travelogue and The X-Files, the cable hit follows Gates as he proves or debunks paranormal phenomena around the globe. Over four seasons, he’s chased the Yeti in Nepal and tracked werewolves in Transylvania, among other outings.

To commemorate St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, Gates will search for the mythical Irish spirit known as the banshee in a live four-hour broadcast from a crumbling castle in Carlow, Ireland. In the real world, Gates has university degrees in archaeology and drama and is a genuine adventurer (he’s scaled Mount Kilimanjaro) and qualified scuba diver.

He recently spoke to The Globe and Mail from Los Angeles.

How were you chosen to host Destination Truth?

I’m a real travel enthusiast. The Syfy channel was looking for a show to run alongside Ghost Hunters and investigate the paranormal in a different way. For a TV show, it has a bit of comedy, a bit of travel, and you get these thrilling paranormal investigations as well. It’s a complete package.

‘Lost’: What Really Is The Smoke Monster?

Who is Smokey?

Who is Smokey?

As expected, this week’s Lost yielded more questions than answers, just as mother warned us.

Well, to their credit a few questions did get answered. We now know where Jacob and his twin brother came from. We now know what said twin brother set out to do. We now know that he, along with his “crazy” mother, are actually Adam and Eve, the skeletons that Jack and Kate found at the beginning of the series.

But more telling are the things that weren’t revealed, and if we’re out to understand why things went the way they did, we’ll have to do a bit more waiting.

I’ll have to admit when I first started watching this I wasn’t a huge fan. But I forced myself to start watching it again about three quarters through the season. And man did it finish strong. Hopefully next season continues to improve. And in the meantime I’ll re-watch and catch up on the episodes I missed via the recent release of Fringe Season 1 on DVD.

FOX’s Fringe will begin filming next week on June 24 in Vancouver. Not only is the venue changing, the cast is changing as well.

Paranormal SPY’s Own Angelique Avalon Ain’t Lost No More… Or So She Thinks

It seems as though Miss Avalon might have quite the theory here. I had originally speculated the Lost folks were all dead and in some kind of whacked-out purgatory. But after I got this from an excited Angelique (before I even  saw the season finale I might add) early Thursday morning, I began to think she might be a bit slightly more un-Lost than myself.

Lost: Episode 7: The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham

locke art

I’ll tell ya this poor bastard Locke can’t catch a break with his legs, between the fall from daddy’s window, all the way back to season one with the flying shrapnel while attempting to puncture the hatch, to the back and forth of you’re paralyzed, you’re not paralyzed, you’re paralyzed, ahhh actually you’re not, it’s just a slight bruise from the car that tried to back over you, to the fall down the Dharma well, complete with compound fracture. how does this guy keep getting up and why? We’ll get back to this.

Lost: Episode 6: 316

lost 316

Alright here’s the thing, I LOVE Lost. But this is one of those episodes ( Episode 6: 316 ) that drives me absolutely bing bong! I refer to these episodes as “LOST an Hour of My Life” episodes. They typically drag and tease you with one little tid bit of information and before you know it the show is done. I literally watch the clock as the minutes tick by in anticipation of a reveal which never comes. I should know better by now. But what made this a really annoying episode was that it was a Jack episode. Now I can see why they actually considered killing him off in the first season.

Lost: Episode 5: This Place is Death

run_art

Well Jin was right the elusive smoke monster is back and does it have a chip on it’s shoulder. Episode 5: This Place is Death has to be one of the best episodes I’ve seen in a long time.

It begins with Jin washing up back on the island only to be rescued by a young Danielle Rousseau in the year 1988. Before they even set 10 steps into the jungle a chase begins with the smoke monster slithering through the brush and kicking up trees.
