The sound of footsteps on the stairs when no one else is around and swirling candle flames are among the unusual occurrences Gloria Rouse has experienced at Rockledge Mansion in Occoquan.

For the first time — and for one day only — Rockledge will be included Sunday in the town’s ghost tours so others have the opportunity to experience the unexplainable.

While Rouse has not seen the Confederate soldier believed to haunt the 250-year-old building that looms over Mill Street, she believes he — or something — is there and means no harm.

I don’t believe Joe set out to have any involvement at all in anything paranormal, but as chance played out, he and his wife purchased what the region calls, The Hinsdale House, a haunted property in Hinsdale, New York, once owned by the Dandy family and the site of a Catholic Church exorcism in 1974.

The Picton Ghost Children

NSW is split into two groups – those who believe in the seemingly paranormal activity seen in a photograph of a pair of ghostly children wandering in a cemetery south of Sydney and those who think it’s all bunk.

The Daily Telegraph’s website was flooded with hundreds of comments yesterday as Renee English, who took the photo on January 9 while on a ghost tour for her teenage brother’s birthday, stood by her claim no one was in the cemetery at the time.

“Let them say it (it’s not true), I know I took that photo and I know those kids weren’t there,” she said.

Imagine it’s a cold, gray night. The moon has cast a pale glow on the tree-lined paths of the Mills College campus, and you’re walking alone. As you walk, you go over the events of the day: that midterm you aced, the homework you didn’t do, your cute new crush.

All of a sudden, you see a glimpse of something out of the corner of your eye that interrupts you. It might be a shadowy figure, a mysterious woman in a red nightgown, or a horse-drawn carriage disappearing into the night.

You wouldn’t be the first to see or hear things on campus that you cannot explain. With buildings like Mills Hall as much as 140 years old, it is no surprise that Mills has collected a bevy of spooky legends over the years that even the bravest student might find unsettling.

The Venetian Theatre Hillsboro (Wikipedia)

While the audience watched the closing minutes of “Death of a Salesman” in The Venetian Theatre’s auditorium Saturday night, a team of paranormal investigators set up equipment, hoping to capture a performance of a different sort.

Greg Gieler, co-leader Chris York and 10 other members of Rain City Paranormal planned to spend the night in the darkened building, watching for a sign from any of the spirits that may lurk in the refurbished theater and bistro at 253 Main St.

On July 25, Gieler had led a smaller investigation at the invitation of owners Denzil Scheller and Saxony Peterson. Since the Venetian’s opening in the summer of 2008, its staff had witnessed a number of unexplainable events. Lights and music have turned on and off unassisted. Phantoms, including a gray-haired man who favors one of the auditorium’s back-row seats, have made multiple appearances.

Paranormal Activity

Horror fans, the wait is now officially over — or it could be soon, depending on where you live. On Sept. 25, Paramount Pictures will finally release Paranormal Activity, the super low-budget indie that fright flick fanatics have been foaming at the mouth to see since its storied debut at the January 2008 Slamdance fest. On Sept. 24, the movie — about a young San Diego couple terrorized by things that go bump in the night — will screen at midnight at the Alamo Draft House in Austin, Tex. as part of über-geek Harry Knowles’ Fantastic Fest. Prepare to be freaked out. At a recent screening in Toronto, a packed audience gasped and screamed as they watched actors Micah Sloat and Katie Featherston become increasingly unhinged in the presence of a (potential) demon. One can’t help but turn their thoughts toward autumn once the children return to school, and, if you’re a ghost hunter or enthusiast, then you can’t help but dream of Halloween.  Nashville and the surrounding area are blessed with a wealth of events during the Halloween season, beyond just the usual commercial haunted houses, and many of them are suitable for the entire family.  Here are just a few of the events that have already been announced.

American Paranormal Society Meeting and Open House– On Saturday, Oct. 10, at 10:30am, the American Paranormal Society will be hosting an open house atCosmic Connections,  1701 Portland Avenue in Nashville.  Join one of Nashville’s oldest paranormal organizations for presentations ranging from the most haunted sites in Middle Tennessee to identifying ghosts in photographs and more.

A small but growing buzz about what is said to be the next great horror film has been floating around hard-core horror fan sites on the Internet. Due to an overwhelmingly terrified audience that was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at this brand new horror film at festivals across the US, news has spread that “Paranormal Activity” will be this generation’s “Exorcist”.

Dreamworks quickly picked up first time directorOren Peli’s film Paranormal Activity in 2007 for distribution on DVD. Dreamworks also acquired the remake rights to the film with plans to re-shoot the movie and deliver it to a theater near you.

The film is a paranormal suspense horror shot to look like real footage. This is not quite like your “Blair Witch Project” with three kids running around with supposed real documentary footage, this is more like something you would see on Youtube, or on one of those paranormal TV shows like “Ghost Adventures”.

American Theatre in Cherokee (Chronicle Times}

DES MOINES – On May 2, 2009, Mid-Iowa Paranormal came back to investigate the American Theatre in Cherokee after having great experiences from the last investigation almost a year ago on June 20, 2008. Mid-Iowa Paranormal, founded by Robert Sinclair, has been the first paranormal investigations team to investigate the building.

The American Theatre was built in 1920 by Barry Sisk and Walter James, but they ran out of finances before being able to open the building. In 1923, Dale Goldie purchased the building from a sheriff’s auction and opened the theatre in 1925. His wife, Hazel worked in the ticket booth for the majority of her life. The basement of the building was used to store civil defense supplies, and those supplies are still there in entirety in large barrels.

EXCERPT: One of the entities that inhabits the house has a habit of rearranging things. It has been reported that setups for wedding receptions or other events have been rearranged or even moved into another room after the home has been left vacant for several hours or overnight. One owner of the house reported observing on several occasions lights in the house turning on and off as they drove down the street. Ghosts or none, the house is a unique place to host any special event.
