As expected, this week’s Lost yielded more questions than answers, just as mother warned us.

Well, to their credit a few questions did get answered. We now know where Jacob and his twin brother came from. We now know what said twin brother set out to do. We now know that he, along with his “crazy” mother, are actually Adam and Eve, the skeletons that Jack and Kate found at the beginning of the series.

But more telling are the things that weren’t revealed, and if we’re out to understand why things went the way they did, we’ll have to do a bit more waiting.

This is not an attempt to shed light on this tradegy, but a lot of buzz is being generated about the the missing Air France Airbus and its similarities to Oceanic Flight 815 on the ABC series LOST. In fact, after posting last night about the natural atmospheric electrical disturbance of The South Atlantic Anomaly, I read reports this morning that the debris field shows no signs of flight 447… the mystery has deepened.

Fans of LOST know how deeply complex the show is, so I can make no attempt to explain it all here. But basically, a flight across the Pacific was brought down by a large electrical magnetic energy pulse (EMP), which was later found to be a released from “The Island”. It brings to mind the natural points of energy or chakras on the planet (I will talk more about that on my Metaphysical Examinerpage).

On LOST, a build-up of this electromagnetic energy was released at the precise moment that the plane was within reach of the island. The show goes deeper into the Darma Initiative Poject that resulted in controling and releasing that energy at precise times to ‘save the planet’. The plot of the show is that the plane crashed, but many passengers miraculously survived and were stranded on an island that has dimensional and time shifts. That might be where I lose most of you, but there is a lot of science (time travel, relativity, string theory) that is used to support this. Call it science fiction or fanatsy, it has captivated a cult-like audience that tries to make connections with everything in the show and real world pop culture.

It seems as though Miss Avalon might have quite the theory here. I had originally speculated the Lost folks were all dead and in some kind of whacked-out purgatory. But after I got this from an excited Angelique (before I even saw the season finale I might add) early Thursday morning, I began to think she might be a bit slightly more un-Lost than myself.

Disclaimer: Unfortunately you need to read the story of Jacob’s Ladder first and then compare to Angelique’s explanation below.

The guy who said, “Do you know how much I want to kill you?”, will end up being his brother Esau. That brother has taken over John Locke’s body to manipulate Ben into killing Jacob in the temple.

I predict that the last episode will end with someone (Echo?) having a dream (like Jacob did).. The whole series will be one guy’s dream where good and evil fought it out at the gateway between heaven and earth.

I always remembered the Jacob’s ladder story was about this good guy Jacob “wrestling with his angels on a beach!!!!”

So is she right? With the way Lost plots come and go, I don’t think I’m ready to put any money on it.

I’ll tell ya this poor bastard Locke can’t catch a break with his legs, between the fall from daddy’s window, all the way back to season one with the flying shrapnel while attempting to puncture the hatch, to the back and forth of you’re paralyzed, you’re not paralyzed, you’re paralyzed, ahhh actually you’re not, it’s just a slight bruise from the car that tried to back over you, to the fall down the Dharma well, complete with compound fracture. how does this guy keep getting up and why? We’ll get back to this.

On with the episode, I had high expectations for this episode after last weeks snoozer and I might’ve gotten myself to hyped up again. It was good but by no means great. Locke was the focus of Episode 7, The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham. They didn’t waist anytime revealing that Locke was still alive. After a brief intro with the two new characters Caesar and Ilanna, we find a hooded Locke sitting back on the Island’s beach. There was some sort of sun symbol on the back of Locke’s Jedi outfit. I thought it was a Dharma symbol at first, but never mind it’s probably just one of those Lost dead ends.

Then we start to get a lot of flashbacks to a lot of things we already know about Locke, or that’s how it felt anyway. We get the Locke is special again. But still no explanation. He continues on with the collection of his island mates with the hopes of returning. This proves to be extremely difficult which leads to his suicide or so we are meant to think. Ben has something for Locke which ends up completing the “Why Locke needed to die” part of the story.

A couple of things I was hoping to see which we didn’t get was what Jin was up to in his new Dharma jumpsuit and an explanation to why Ben was so beaten up. I’m wondering if he got to Penny since he called from a marina where Desmond possibly had his boat docked. Where did Sayid and Sun go after the plane crashed? Is Charles Widmore actually a good guy?

Anyway, like I said, a decent episode with some interesting story details and surprises like the quick bit with a now teenage Walt. But back to this idea of Locke always getting up after being knocked down. Is Locke some sort of metaphor for how difficult life can be, and you always need to get back up and plug away? Sure seems like it since he has returned from the dead. Hopefully Locke will start to figure this out soon and finally put to rest the endless manipulation as well as that bastard Ben.
Alright here’s the thing, I LOVE Lost. But this is one of those episodes ( Episode 6: 316 ) that drives me absolutely bing bong! I refer to these episodes as “LOST an Hour of My Life” episodes. They typically drag and tease you with one little tid bit of information and before you know it the show is done. I literally watch the clock as the minutes tick by in anticipation of a reveal which never comes. I should know better by now. But what made this a really annoying episode was that it was a Jack episode. Now I can see why they actually considered killing him off in the first season.

Anyway, to save you from a Jack hangover I thought I would do a quick breakdown. Here it goes. First Ben, Sun, Desmond, and Jack meet Faraday’s mother at the Dharma church. Jack starts to get annoying when he’s given a letter from Locke. They’re told to take a plane to Guam which is really a direct flight back to “The Island”. Jack refuses to read note from Locke. Gee, what a surprise. Jack visits grandfather then finishes off the evening with a little dirty fun with Kate. By this time Jack is really giving me a headache so I’m going to spare you the bit with his grandfather’s shoes. Next, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, and a boxed up Locke buy tickets on flight 316 to Guam too. I don’t EVER want to see Jack again at this point. Plane shakes and flash, “The Island”. So yes, it’s back to the island and the series begins all over again. And that’s a whole lot of Jack!
Well Jin was right the elusive smoke monster is back and does it have a chip on it’s shoulder. Episode 5: This Place is Death has to be one of the best episodes I’ve seen in a long time.

It begins with Jin washing up back on the island only to be rescued by a young Danielle Rousseau in the year 1988. Before they even set 10 steps into the jungle a chase begins with the smoke monster slithering through the brush and kicking up trees. Smokey snatches one of the Rousseau party and drags him off into what looks like a Mayan or Aztec temple. I feel another storyline developing here folks. A game of human “Tug of War” ensues and Mr. French victim loses an arm and disappears below the temple. Fast forward, flash forward, some sort of time slip, and now it’s a few days later and Jin witnesses Rousseau using the father of her child for target practice. It seems as though the smoke monster has got some sort of possession thing going on. And this is only the first five minutes.

With a bunch of nose bleeds, time slips, and other cool Lost connections, this episode really is jam packed with good stuff. So good, that I forgot how they got away without explaining the smoke monster again. AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHH. Oh well, maybe next season. Enjoy.
