Don't expect George Washington's ghost

This is a short and to the point one. For those that are starting out in this field there is a lot you need to learn and understand before you actually go out and do a case. Today’s article is just another point that I think needs to be made to all of the “newbie’s” out there. Simply put “Do not expect anything to happen.”

If you go into an investigation expecting to see the ghost of George Washington or just Aunt Emma, you are bound to be disappointed. Most of the time paranormal investigators are sitting around waiting and waiting and waiting. The paranormal activity doesn’t begin just because an investigator is present. If you go in expecting nothing to be there and for nothing to be paranormal then you won’t be disappointed.

He gives possible reasons why we don’t see more apparitions and describes why researchers can’t always get a photographic image of an apparition. This is the UK documentary examining the infamous Enfield Poltergeist case from the 1970s. It includes interviews with paranormal investigator Maurice Grosse, as well as Janet, who as a young girl would be the center of the activity. This is one friggin creepy poltergeist case. I think it might even give Speilberg a run for his money.

So have you ever had someone tell you you’re crazy and that there’s zero proof of the paranormal? Especially those smarty-pants types who unless it slaps them in the face, it doesn’t exist (that’s one unexciting world to live in)? Well if you’re reading this I’m assuming you probably know some of these clowns. You know what, it is a bit harsh, but it’s time to turn the tables on these folks and expose them to what’s really going on in our mysterious world, and make them aware that there’s still some work to be done on the unknown and unexplained. Actually, the heck with these people, I want to know what’s really going on. But the only way to accomplish this is with the help of mainstream science, and that’s exactly what Dr. Lawrence LeShan tackles in his new book  A New Science of the Paranormal.

Dr. LeShan, a psychologist and parapsychologist (and originally a skeptic) with twenty books published and more years in the field than most, declares that the paradigm must shift if we plan on moving forward with the study and investigation into the paranormal. He argues that it’s time to stop wasting the time of trying to prove it’s existence and start studying the why and how. Now he’s not saying that we must drop everything and just believe in this new reality, but that we must develop theories that will work with both the old data and the new, and approach it scientifically. Ultimately this should bring the paranormal out from the shadows and into the mainstream, where scientists can study it free of ridicule.

Also, don’t let the title scare you. I know sometimes when you see science in a title that the read might be a bit rough on the old noggin, but this thing moves. LeShan uses actual case studies to help illustrate ideas from each chapter making this an engrossing, begging for more type of read.

And the next time you run into one of those smarty-pants who thinks you’re crazy, ask them about that pesky old fact that the earth is flat.

I don’t want to get too fired up about this leak so I’ll be leaving the proton pack in the closet. But the Ghostbusters 3 update came directly from Dan Aykroyd’s mouth. This is one of my all-time favorite comedies of the ’80s, which stars one of the best comedy casts since Stripes or The Blues Brothers.

While in Boston promoting the House of Blues, Aykroyd discussed the possibility of a third installment of Ghostbusters. Production is shooting for a Fall 2009 start date. The best part, original cast members Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson expressed interest but are waiting to see how the script develops.
