Lost: Episode 7: The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham

I’ll tell ya this poor bastard Locke can’t catch a break with his legs, between the fall from daddy’s window, all the way back to season one with the flying shrapnel while attempting to puncture the hatch, to the back and forth of you’re paralyzed, you’re not paralyzed, you’re paralyzed, ahhh actually you’re not, it’s just a slight bruise from the car that tried to back over you, to the fall down the Dharma well, complete with compound fracture. how does this guy keep getting up and why? We’ll get back to this.

On with the episode, I had high expectations for this episode after last weeks snoozer and I might’ve gotten myself to hyped up again. It was good but by no means great. Locke was the focus of Episode 7, The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.  They didn’t waist anytime revealing that Locke was still alive. After a brief intro with the two new characters Caesar and Ilanna, we find a hooded Locke sitting back on the Island’s beach. There was some sort of sun symbol on the back of Locke’s Jedi outfit. I thought it was a Dharma symbol at first, but never mind it’s probably just one of those Lost dead ends.

Then we start to get a lot of flashbacks to a lot of things we already know about Locke, or that’s how it felt anyway. We get the Locke is special again. But still no explanation. He continues on with the collection of his island mates with the hopes of returning. This proves to be extremely difficult which leads to his suicide or so we are meant to think. Ben has something for Locke which ends up completing the “Why Locke needed to die” part of the story.

A couple of things I was hoping to see which we didn’t get was what Jin was up to in his new Dharma jumpsuit and an explanation to why Ben was so beaten up. I’m wondering if he got to Penny since he called from a marina where Desmond possibly had his boat docked. Where did Sayid and Sun go after the plane crashed? Is Charles Widmore actually a good guy?

Anyway, like I said, a decent episode with some interesting story details and surprises like the quick bit with a now teenage Walt. But back to this idea of Locke always getting up after being knocked down. Is Locke some sort of metaphor for how difficult life can be, and you always need to get back up and plug away? Sure seems like it since he has returned from the dead. Hopefully Locke will start to figure this out soon and finally put to rest the endless manipulation as well as that bastard Ben. I love the Art:) You are right poor guy they keep messing with his legs. I dont think Charles Widmore is a good guy i think some how he cant go back to the island and he got stuck on this side and trying to get back to the island. i am not sure if Ben killed Desmond but he definitely had a good fight with him trying to protect Penny from Ben.
